Started by a young entrepreneur as a way to provide personal care products to men of color, Golden Grooming sold the company because he didn’t have the expertise, time, or resources to grow and maintain it. Tackle Life Foundation President Herman Moore bought into the business and, along with his business partners, leveraged knowledge and expertise to grow it.
While a success story for Moore, he considers the bigger blessing to be the attention it drew to what he didn’t want to happen with other entrepreneurs: no longer being able to afford their own businesses, they are acquired by someone who subsequently changes the concept or brand.
Moore saw an opportunity to help those entrepreneurs, creating the Tackle Life Entrepreneurship Program. Instead of acquiring brands outright and folding them into Golden Grooming, the Tackle Life Entrepreneurship Program provides resources to those companies so they can grow and retain their goals and dreams.
“Golden Grooming, while a successful company for us and a successful business acquisition, it has also become a reminder of why we do what we do,” he said.
